My Top 5 Self Care Tips

Anyone else riding waves of anxiety and stress today😩? Just me? ok cool...well election week or no, here are my top 5 tips for self-care. Save this! 🔰

True self care is any activity that we do with the intention of taking care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. When we do these activities regularly it leads to reduced stress and anxiety.

While self care in the form of spa days, face masks & manicures is nice, its easy to overlook or put off. My top 5 self care tips are simple, (mostly) free and essential for daily stress & anxiety management. I recommend you put these at the top of your to-do list each day. Fill your cup first, so that you're better able to help others.

pin & save this!

  1. Set Boundaries: Check email, texts, news, and social media at designated times only. Turn off all notifications (except emergency alerts) completely, or turn on for only a select number of people, (ie your spouse, your kids, your mom). The constant influx of information can be overwhelming.

  2. Breathe: The simplest way, take a long so breath in for a count of 5-10, and exhale for a count of 5-10. You may also do guided breathwork if you prefer.

  3. Ground Yourself: Go outside, plant your bare feet in the grass, touch a tree, or touch your house plants. Nature is soothing and Vitamin D has been shown to improve mental health. A hike or scenic drive can be comforting as well.

  4. Do something you enjoy: whether it's an activity like painting, baking, knitting or listening to music, even a few minutes each day doing something you enjoy is a great boost for mental health. Not to mention having something to keep your hands & mind busy is a great distraction from the news.

  5. Move: dance, stretch, go for a walk or run, or lift some weights. Movement is one of the best stress relievers known to man!

If the world seems heavy right now and you're stressed about the state of America, I want you to know, you're not alone. We may not be able to control what happens in the next few days, but we can control how we respond to it.

There's also something to be said for a good cup of chamomile tea, lighting a candle or two, meditation, comedy/laughter, and socializing (safely) with friends or family members.

What are your favorite self care tips? Tell me below! My favorite is spending time in my garden or with my indoor plants.

xoxo,

Briana
