How Not to Eat Like an A**hole this Thanksgiving

How many of you woke up Monday morning and said "I'm going to be so good this week to make up for Thursday"? Listen Linda, you don't have to skip the pie to be 'good' and no matter how much damage you think you've done on Thursday, you're NOT bad.

Here's exactly what I want you to do this week:

Hydrate! Drink half your body weight in ounces of water every day. Can't stomach cold water right now, try herbal tea or broth to get those ounces in! Add a little extra if you're traveling, drinking alcohol or eating a lot of high salt foods.

Fill half your Plate with Veggies : (& fruit) at every meal this week (white potatoes don't count), 1/4 protein (meat, fish, legumes, tofu, tempeh etc) and 1/4 carbs (potatoes, sweet potatoes, grains, pasta etc) with a bit of fat (avocado, butter, nuts, seeds etc)

Use a Smaller Plate: You'll have the appearance of a full plate, and are less likely to overeat. Go back for seconds if you're still hunger after a waiting period of 10-15 minutes. You're not on a diet this helps you get more in tune with your bodys hunger cues.

Slow Down: I know its a stressful time of year, but stop and enjoy your meal. Sit at the table, put down your phone, turn off the tv and try setting your fork down between bites.

Move your Body: about 20 minutes a day will improve your mood, reduce stress & anxiety, improve digestion and increase energy! Get out for a walk, take a class with me at Gem Fitness or turn on some music & dance.

Eat what you LOVE: Saying no to your favorite foods like pumpkin pie or having a pumpkin pie protein shake will only leave you miserable. Eat some, enjoy the HECK out of it and move on! On the other hand don't feel pressured to eat something you don't like or don't want to make someone else happy. You do you!

What tips/tricks do you use for not eating like an a$$hole this time of year? Remember it's only 1 meal and one day. There are only 30 some odd days left in 2020 and you don't have to wait until the new year to start taking better care of yourself.

Holiday stress plus Covid stress means we're all a little more wound up this year. Now more than ever it's important to prioritize your self care, your nutrition and exercise!
