You don't have to make healthier swaps this Thanksgiving, but if you WANT to here are some of my favorites for every day & holidays!!
THANKSGIVING SPECIFIC SWAPS
Instead of a charcuterie or cheese plate serve fresh sliced veggies with hummus or fruit with a low-fat greek yogurt dip (mix 1 cup nonfat greek yogurt with 2-4 tbps peanut butter, and 1/2 - 1 tbsp cinnamon plus honey or maple syrup to taste if desired).
Swap in 1/3 to 1/2 mashed cauliflower for the potatoes in your mashed potatoes
Skip the top crust on your apple pie
Use 1/2 coconut sugar, 1/2 brown sugar in baking recipes
Swap in 1/4 to 1/2 of all-purpose flour for whole wheat or whole wheat pastry flour
Serve roasted brussel sprouts or roasted green beans in place of green bean casserole
Skip the rolls and serve a fall-inspired salad (add pomegranates, persimmons or apples and roasted pecans) instead
Make Mini Pies in muffin tins, they're super cute and portion-controlled!
For cookies & other sweets: make half a recipe or freeze the extras!
